Reduce Your Car Insurance Premiums -- Top Tips!

Do you glibly accept your current insurer’s renewal notice thinking that you as you have got a good deal on your car cover there is no need to get a quote elsewhere? Or when a car insurance leaflet drops through your door offering cheaper cover, do you switch your insurance to them at renewal time without investigating what other companies have got to offer?

Then you could be paying more than you have to for your motor insurance!

Getting a good deal on your car insurance doesn’t need to take up a lot of your time – it can be a simple, two-pronged attack that could see you shave literally hundreds of pounds off your motor insurance premiums, quickly and efficently!

The first thing to do is to shop around. The car insurance marketplace is more competitive than ever right now with literally hundreds of insurers and companies in the car insurance marketplace trying to undercut everyone else. Use this to your advantage - use the internet to see what deals are on offer and get yourself a few quotes. You’ll be surprised just how low the quotes can go!

Ensure that you get any quotes on a like for like basis so that you get a true idea of what you could be paying for the same quality and level of cover.

Once you have found some quotes that you like (ie good price, good policy features and benefits) now is the time to make even more savings so you need to play around with the quotes a bit!

• Up your voluntary excess to as much as you know you could comfortably afford should you need to make a claim

• If you have a garage, then start using it. Garaged vehicles attract a discount

• Know your car and the safety and anti-theft features it has - airbags, antilock brakes, automatic seat belts for safety and immobilisers and satellite/GPS systems should help to get you a better premium
So now you have the same level of cover but hopefully at a better price. But how can you make sure that your premiums don’t rise too much next year?

• Drive safely – points for speeding or going through red lights or generally bad driving attract higher penalties, so don’t do it!

• If you are changing your vehicle, consider going for a more traditional car. We are not saying swap your sports car for a family car, but maybe compromise a bit. Not only will it save you a fortune on fuel but a ton on your insurance premiums!

• Don’t add younger or inexperienced drivers to your insurance – they really make your premiums go sky high!

Happy Motoring!
